With reference to paragraph 14 of the Petition

of Summund Singh, I have the honour to report that on the 10th.

of March, 1898, by your instructions I sent for Summund Singh,

4 p.m. during these two hours he left my office once to go to

the Urinal.

His statement about my taking a Chinaman into

my office and pointing him (the Petitioner) out,&c.,is false.

In the first place I was not aware of who the Chinaman was,

who was going to identify him and secondly so far as I am

aware the Chinaman did not put in an appearance at the Cen-

tral Station on that day.
